In violation of the CAF guidelines, natural growth was cleared to make way for Posanipet plantation. The 32-ha eucalyptus plantation was raised to offset the forest loss caused by expanding NH-7 in the same district.
Case Analysis
This 32-ha plantation at Posanipet RF was raised to compensate in part for diversion of 13.6 ha of forest land to expand NH-7 from 2 lanes to 4/6 lanes in the same district.
The budget for this plantation is Rs. 13,36,765.39 to plant 35,022 plants, or approximately 38 rs/tree. 7 species were planted, but more than 80% of saplings were Eucalyptus clones. This 5-year project began in 2010 and the land is Degraded Notified Forest land.
